F.R.I.E.N.D.S fans were surprised by the return of iconic sitcom, after passing about 16 years since the last episode. Kevin Reilly, who is the chief content officer of HBO Max and president of TBS, TNT, and truTV, officially announced the reunion which will be exclusive to HBO Max. HBO is a new streaming service that includes shows and movies and will be launched in May 2020.
Whereas the original 10-seasons of total 236 episodes of Friends left Netflix on Jan after HBO Max paid $425 million to own the series for five years.
During the past years, Rumors about the return of the show had been spread wide several times which then seemed to be only assumptions and wrong news. But this time, the cast of the show, as well as the chief content officer of the HBOmax, confirmed the reunion.
All of the six stars: Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer will perform their original roles. This reunion will be unscripted and they will return to their original soundstage, Stage 24, at the Warner Bros. Studio lot in Burbank to film it. They will also participate as executive-producer alongside original series EPs Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman, and David Crane, as well as Ben Winston who is on board to direct.
The final episode was aired in May 2004 and was watched by around 52.5 million American viewers, making it the fifth most-watched series finale in television history, and the most-watched television episode of the 2000s decade.
The show had reflected through the 10 seasons the life of six friends: Rachel, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler, Monica and her brother Ross who are in their 20s and 30s living in Manhattan, New York City. It revolved around their relationships with each other and with the other people including families, work and daily life.
The show has a great number of fans all over the world who responded to this news with a lot of happiness and started to recall and publish the events in the sitcom. While others faced mixed feelings between the happiness of this reunion and the fear of ruining their memories with their favorite show and the last emotional episode.
However, we are still excited about watching them together again with their familiar faces and performance.
How about you? Well, we hope you’re as excited as Phoebe and Rachel in this GIF, just as we are.
