Artkhana gives new perspective for art exhibitions in Egypt

"Artkhana succeeded in giving the art exhibition scene in Egypt a youthful, colorful and creative perspective that didn't exist before."

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the words “art exhibition”? Classical paintings with golden frames put on walls of an empty hall with formally dressed people walking around giving their comments, huh?

But with Artkhana; it’s totally different.

On Friday 2nd of March, Artkhana -an art based NGO- held their forth exhibition in 3elbet Alwan at Maadi with the theme “Spectrum”  that basically means a band of colors, as seen in a rainbow, and that’s exactly how you feel from the moment you step into the venue, a rush of colors.

Artkhana displayed paintings, drawings, doodles, handcrafts made by their youthful members in form of sections, each section was specialized for a color.

In case you’re wondering where the money goes; part of it goes for charity causes which is a main pillar in Artkhana’s vision and the rest goes for funding their upcoming events.

Separately, they dedicated a wall for freelance artists who aren’t members of the entity to showcase their work.

Additionally, Artkhana’s writing team published their 5th independent book, named “Blindsight”  that follows the spectrum theme with a poetic twist and creative plot. Also, the writing team’s head, Malak Koshty, who’s only eighteen published her own book entitled, “A wholehearted attempt”, that targeted nothing but your heart.

Artkhana’s art didn’t stop at the paintings on display, there were live paintings carried out by the painting team members alongside with members of the music team performing that definitely amused the attendees.

And of course if the tummies go hungry the show goes bad, so Artkhana had By Bike to keep our tummies happy.

Saving the best for the last, Artkhana’s music team wrapped up the night with a set of diverse music from English classics, to Arabic hits, to simply music we all relate to on an emotional level.

For media coverage, there was DMC TV, Cairo Scene, Going Deep magazine and The Insider MIU.

Lastly, Artkhana’s first exhibition was in 2015. Ever since, the entity started gaining wide recognition and kept the pace of establishing an exhibition every year. With every year, the hardwork and quality put into their exhibitions doubled up and are very obvious if you take a quick glance at their evolution.
