70 GUC students have entered the “Youth Citizen Entrepreneurship Competition”,an international competition searching for young entrepreneurs who aim to create a positive change in their communities, with their project “Nawwar” seeking to improve teaching techniques in Egypt.

“The aim of the project is to change the old techniques of teaching to a more easy, student-friendly techniques using illustrated animation and mnemonics in videos (mnemonics is a learning technique that aids information retention)” according to the Animation and Graphics team head “Hady Aymen” 28-Engineering Student.

The founder of this project, Nada Raafat 28-Engineering student, stated that she first thought about the idea when she was in preparatory school, she was studying history and wondered why not having it as a movie to easily memorize the events, instead of the regular way, and that way of thinking  has come to her while studying other courses too. She further added,“The idea itself kept nagging in my head because I think I had experienced so much of wrong teaching techniques in many courses I took at school.”

Launched by The Goi Peace Foundation, Stiftung Entrepreneurship (Berlin) and UNESCO,the “Youth Citizen Entrepreneurship competition” would allow the team of “Nawwar” to aid students in different educational systems in Egypt as IGSEC, American Diploma and the National system, to understand, learn and study using a more efficient and entertaining way with reliable sources to the material explained using animation videos.

“Nawwar” falls in the “Best ideas” category in the competition. An online voting will decide the first 10 entries to be qualified in the final list. Then, the appointed panel of judges is to decide the first 3 winners (Grand Prize, 2nd place prize and 3rd place prize) in each category.

The Grand Prize winners will be invited to the award ceremony during the Entrepreneurship Summit in Berlin in October 2014 where they can present their ideas and activities in a global platform.
