Annually, Bill Clinton -the former US president- announces a challenge faced by the world, where competing teams have to innovate and come up with appropriate effective business solutions that enhance the lives of people around the world.
This year’s case study was “Can you build a scalable, sustainable, social enterprise that harnesses the power of energy to transform the lives of 10 million people by 2025?”
The stages of the competition include an “on campus” level, followed by competing with teams from all over the world in the “Regionals phase” that takes place in 15 cities including Cairo, Mexico City, London and San Francisco. The winners from the regionals phase then qualify for “the grand finale” that takes place in the UN headquarters in New York and the winning team is granted $1,000,000 to execute their idea.
On Saturday the 17th of March, “GoldenCap“, the winners of Hult Prize GUC 2018, were competing in Cairo regional with an idea aiming to build a small scale plastic recycling industry that produces low cost composite bricks, roof tiles and pavement blocks, suitable as building materials for shelters and houses in rural areas.
Out of more than 20 competing teams, “GoldenCap” managed to make it to the top 6 teams, impressing the judges and the audience with their prototype and pitching skills.

On the same date but on the other side of the world, “Aqua Electroform“ represented by Samer and Kerolos, 5th-year pharmacy students from the GUC was the only Egyptian team to qualify to Mexico City’s regional, and to continue their series of achievements, they won the 2nd place after a very tough competition with the top 6 teams.
Their idea mainly involves the production of water and electricity in adequate amounts for refugees having limited access to clean water.
